Soil is the mixture of minerals, organic matter, gases, liquids, and the countless organisms that together support life on Earth.
These have been deposited by three important river systems— the Indus, the Ganga and the Brahmaputra. Alluvial soil is also found in the eastern coastal plains particularly in the deltas of the Mahanadi, the Godavari, the Krishna and the Kaveri rivers. The alluvial soil consists of various proportions of sand, silt and clay. This soil is very fertile soil which is good for growth in wheat pulse crops, sugarcane, paddy etc. Alluvial soils are class into two group according to their age and first is Old alluvial (known as Bangar) and other is new alluvial (called KHADAR). Bangar is less fertile than KHADAR.
These soils are black in color. This is good for cotton growth. It is found in northwest Deccan plateau and made up of lava.
Red and Yellow Soil
It founds in area of low rainfall in the eastern and southern Deccan plateau. They found in parts of orrisa, chhattishgarh. Red color is due to diffusion of iron partical.
it develop in area of high temperature and high rainfall. Mainly found in Karnataka, M.P, orrisa, assam, Kerala and Tamil nadu. It is very useful for growing tea and coffee and cashew nuts.
These are found in the hilly areas where sufficient rain forest are available.
